The Republic
Sin Republic presents itself as a country. It is a small one, with one address, and it takes its own rules seriously.
Country and citizenship
A salon can be a shop, or it can be a place with a constitution. Sin Chun founded this one in 2013as the second kind.
Whoever sits in the chair is a citizen for as long as they wish to be. Citizenship carries one right, which is to be listened to, and one expectation, which is to say plainly what is wanted.
Those who do the work are sculptors. The title describes the method. Hair is treated as form, not as length.
Circle over angle
The circle appears three times in the Republic. It is in the mark, a circle divided by a single curve. It is in the work, where silhouettes are rounded and edgeless. It is in the seal pressed onto every certificate.
An angle is a decision made once and left to grow out. A curve has no corner to lose. That is the whole argument, and Vortex Sculpting is how it is carried out.
The sins
The name is the founder’s. The Republic has made use of it.
Vanity is permitted here, within reason. So is envy, provided it is of one’s own reflection. The remaining sins are left at the door.
House rules
The charter
The circle over the angle
No hard line leaves the chair. Shape is round, feathered and without edge.
The citizen is heard first
Nothing is cut or coloured until it has been talked through. Some work is priced only after that conversation.
Colour is worn loud or quiet
Both are done with the same care. Neither is the lesser request.
The work is not hurried
A chair is held for as long as the work takes.
The technique belongs to the Republic
Vortex Sculpting is practised by every sculptor, not reserved to one chair.
No appointment is made by machine
Citizens call, or they write. A person answers.
Winston greets everyone
The salon dog holds the office of official greeter. The office is permanent.
